Trying out my new 50mm. A little review.

14 10 2008

Today I got my new lense, a Nikkor AI 50mm F1.8. Oldschool!! It is totally made of awesome, metallic, completly manual. You get a very different feeling than with the current plastic automatic lenses…
I don’t have a manual photometer, yet, so I did some first shootings setting the speed by my instinct and some failed pictures.
This set is nothing espectacular, it’s a bit of a first test to see how well it works by day and night. All pictures were taken at F1.8, no flash or tripod used in any of them. I think it is pretty sharp in the focus point though it tend to deform the image a bit on the borders. What do you think?
Also, the darkest picture was taken at a speed of 1/30 F1.8. That is fast!

Here we go:

You can clearly see what I mean by deformed on the borders in this one:

All in all I am very happy with my purchase and I certanly recommend that everyone who wants to be a bit serious with their photography get a very luminous and fast lense, under F2.
